I got my printer back online but I don't know when Windows 10 might decide to take it offline again. I tried to follow the process and asked questions but soon was hopelessly lost.
The tech I talked to was unable to provide a WPS PIN for my printer but after I agreed to letting her have remote access to my PC they proceeded to go through a lengthy process that involved removing the driver that Windows 10 had been using since I purchased my HP Envy several months ago and reinstalling the printer to my PC. My printer is out of warranty so I paid the fee to talk to a support tech. I posted my question to the forum but after waiting for a while I decided to contact HP Support directly and called the support number. I could not find the pin in the printer documentation that I have so I checked the HP Support Forum but found no reference to the WPS PIN. Windows 10 found the printer but when I tried to add it Windows 10 requested the printer WPS PIN. I tried to add it to my PC as a network printer. I was unable to get it back online and as a last resort I decided to remove and replace the printer.
I was usihg it as a network printer until sometime after the latest Windows 10 update it suddenly went offline. I have an HP Officejet 5740 which supports network and USB. Maybe I specified the wrong printer in my entry.
